I have three considerations when buying a car:
1. Looks 2. Sound 3. Cost
In that order.
What are your top three considerations for car purchases?

Track Rat
1 - Driving dynamics (how I ended up with an AW11)
2 - Engine character (also how I ended up with an AW11)
3 - Amount of rust (probably shouldn’t have bought an AW11)

1. Chassis dynamics/handling
2. Aesthetics
3. Weight (no fat cars)

1. Enough seats for the butts
2. Drives/handles good
3. Stands out from the crowd
Cost encompasses all three

3) Looks
Which led me to the FR-Slow.

Currently it’s:
Drive wheels. (RWD master race)
Cost.
# of cylinders. (V8 master race)
#1&2 may switch places eventually though as I end up having to adult harder.

The rust is why it’s living with my brother in Florida at the moment. I don’t want a New York winter to finish it off, so planning on taking a couple of weeks once it’s nice down there just to grind out rust and seal it.

Love the picture.
My considerations, once past the “does it interest me somehow” hurdle, which casts a wide net:
1. Does it run.
2. Is it rusty.
3. Cost
I have ignored all of these, sometimes all at once.

1. Useability- I like having a car that I can use for a bunch of things. My current RX8 and STI can both serve as daily-drivers, family-haulers and track/autox/drag duties
2. Uniqueness- I have never like owning a car I see all over the place. I am the kind of person that expresses myself through the cars I own
3. Ease of working on and modding- I hardly ever leave anything stock so having good aftermarket support and solid, knowledgeable communites have always been very important to me.

too broad of a question, but probably style, acceleration, longevity (how long I plan on owning it)

1. Is it fun (i dont care what purpose it’s being used for, it must be fun)
2. Is it going to be possible to maintain myself (easy/cheap preferred but definitely secondary)
3. Is it manual
Looks, purchase price, mileage, sound, practicality, and depreciation/resale are all relatively unimportant in comparison.

1. paper........ can i actually OWN the car in my name, and drive it on the street.
2. will it fast?........... what does it weigh/can i fit a v8 and a 4 speed in it?
3. pride............ how proud of it is the owner,
4. belly button.......... does everyone else have one too?

How long you plan on owning it is probably really important and I didnt really consider that. My requirements would drastically change if I wanted to keep a car short term. Then the resale value is going to be quite important whereas I completely ignore that otherwise.

1) Aesthetic condition is utmost- any mechanical issues are fixable but bodywork is expensive to fix correctly.
2) price
3) coolness/uniqueness

1. practicality (i’m going to cheat and include cost in here)
2. performance (with a emphasis on real world enjoyability, not paper stats).
3. Looks

1. Do I like it?
2. Will my wife like it?
3. If the answer to #2 is no, will my wife divorce me if I buy it?
Those are my basic considerations. Depending on the day, it depends on what I’m looking at getting. My real main criteria is have 1 reliable vehicle, 1 of whatever project.

Now?
1. Cost / Cost of Ownership
2. Reliability
3. Practicality/Efficiency (this would have been manual?, but unfortunately they are few and far to come by)

For me, its more of a stupid thing that I prevent myself from buying anything I don’t either
really
want or need. I buy cars with the honest intention of keeping them until the wheels fall off. I would rather suffer until I can get what I want than deal with something I am not happy with. That sucks all the fun out of the hobby for me.

Function- I got a family, need to haul the little one and all her stuff
Driving dynamics- power is cool, but handling is better. I have to be 100% confident in my car.
Looks- I’m not a fan of chrome, blacked out features or needless boy racer features. I do have a soft spot for fancy headlights and odd colors though

1 - Cost (usually, is it less than £500)
2- The List (is it on the list of cars I really really want to own)
3- Funk (is it odd/boxy/old/cool)
If it ticks two of the above I’m golden :)

1. Is it going to be fun? Which starts with is it a manual. Then there’s how does it handle, and how tough is is. I like a car I can beat on a bit, if k have to baby it all the time then what’s the point?
2. Is it different? I hate driving something I see every day. Which is why my 01 Civic coupe, arguably my nicest car, wasn’t in my possession very long.
3. How much crap can I fit in it . Which is why I’m drawn more to hatchbacks, and wagons than coupes, and convertibles. I like to be able to easily fit thins like tools, and skateboards, and a weeks worth of cloths in my car. For a while I was basically living out of my car so I had to have half my wardrobe and anything else I might need in my car. I never really got out of that habit so I still keep a bunch of “just in case” stuff in my car. Hell even in my wife’s car I have a bin faith a change of cloths, a jacket, some deodorant, a pair of shoes, and basic tools in it.
